Jockey Manoel Cruz took two of the four stakes races on Calder's card Saturday. Lawrence Goichman's J'ray sat in the middle of the nine-horse field of the $100,000 My Charmer Handicap (Grade 3) for fillies and mares before moving to the front under Cruz.

Four stakes races worth a total of $400,000, including two Grade 3 events, make up Saturday's feature card at Calder. The $100,000, 1 1/8-mile My Charmer Handicap (Grade 3) is for fillies and mares on the turf, with a field of 11. The race stacks up as a handful of invaders taking on the local champ. Of the invaders, the most interesting are Mark Hennig, Bill Mott, Chris Clement and Todd Pletcher, who will send a quartet of runners to take on Calder-based Milt Wolfson's Annabill.

Bill Hartack, a Hall of Fame jockey and five-time Kentucky Derby winner, has died while on a hunting vacation. He was 74. Hartack died Monday night from natural causes due to heart disease, said Dr. Corinne Stern, the chief medical examiner in south Texas' Webb County.
